A small town just outside Toowoomba could be getting a new business, with a set of self-storage units proposed to the council.
Applicant Angela Kochanski put forward plans late last month for a set of 31 storage units and a caretaker’s accommodation on a block of land on Opportunity Ct in Clifton.
According to the planning report submitted with the applicant, the units would be an asset for the town.
“It is proposed that the available power, water and sewer be connected to the caretaker’s accommodation, but that these services would not be connected to the storage sheds,” the report said.
“Each storage shed would have a closing arm, and tenants would provide their own locks for security purposes.
“The sheds would be rented out at a rate per week deemed appropriate for a rural self-storage facility, which would be much cheaper than a city option.
“Clifton is a quiet, safe town, and this development proposal would be seen as a valuable contribution to the available facilities in this county area.”
The land is located in a medium impact industry zone, which covers the use of “warehousing”.
The council has yet to respond to the application.
