Toowoomba’s premier racecourse will undergo a major expansion to its function facilities and horse stables.
Racing Queensland this month submitted plans to the Toowoomba Regional Council for a two-stage extension of Clifford Park Racecourse.
According to the plans, the proposal would create a new 200-person functions building and massive stables in the southwest corner of the racecourse.
“The stables building to be developed as stage one and will be located adjacent to the existing carparking and truck/float loading area with frontage to Wyalla Street,” the report by precinct Urban Planning said.
“The stables complex will include 24 individual stable enclosures, and four feed/tack room/stables accessed by central aisles.
“The function building to be developed as stage two will cater for a maximum of 200 patrons.
“The building will be located behind existing structures with frontage to Hursley Road.
The purpose of the function building is to replace an existing marquee which is erected for major events throughout the year.”
The extension will add nearly 600 sqm of gross floor area, while the new buildings will have a footprint of more than 860 sqm.
Toowoomba Turf Club CEO Lizzy King was contacted for comment.
The council has yet to respond with an information request.
