The old Toowoomba Sizzler site will soon become the new home for a massive international car rental chain.
Plans submitted to the Toowoomba Regional Council show Avis will be the new occupant of the site on the corner of Hume and James Streets.
It comes nearly two months after it was revealed the property had been snapped up by investors Phillip and Jennifer Vichie for $2m, based on reports from RP Data.
Selling agent Edward Hodge had indicated the buyers had a history with Avis, with the new report confirming it.
The transformation is being led by Toowoomba-based Nielsen Project Management, which is owned by Matt Nielsen.
According to the town planning report by Property Projects Australia, the developer will build a new wash bay area to clean returned rental cars.
It will operate from 8.30am until 6pm seven days a week.
The traffic impact report by RMA Engineers indicated Avis would generate less vehicle movements than the old Sizzler restaurant did.
“The estimated traffic generation for the new use is expected to be 20-30 movements to and from the site, with approximately 10-15 visitors per day,” the report said.
“It is expected that a car carrier will deliver vehicles to the site once a week.
“Therefore, the proposed traffic generation is considered minimal when comparing to the traffic generating potential of the current approved Sizzler restaurant use.”
The council has yet to respond to the application.
