THE region’s major economic lobby group says they expect a pioneering document for Toowoomba will spearhead further investment in manufacturing, renewal energy and transport and logistics.
Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise has hailed the release of Trade and Investment Queensland’s new Invest Toowoomba prospectus, which highlights the variety of opportunities open to companies.
TSBE’s Food Leaders Australia general manager Bruce McConnel said Toowoomba was the first region that TIQ had completed a prospectus on, which he said was an endorsement of the breadth and strength of the local economy.
“This is the first time that a document has been produced collaboratively across all government bodies and industry bodies to put the whole story of the region in one paper,” he said.
“It’s now about taking that story across Australia but also the world, and explain why people should set up shop in Toowoomba.”
While the document highlighted a number of key growth industries, Mr McConnel said three in particular stood out.
“The big one for us is advanced manufacturing — we think we have the ability to attract world-class players,” he said.
“There is also the energy sector, (because) we want to lead Australia in renewable energies, and transport and logistics capabilities to support the rest of the economy.”
Mr McConnel said TSBE hoped to receive a 50 per cent increase in inquiries thanks to the release of the document.
“We want to use this document to start conversations and get people to think about investment in Toowoomba,” he said.
“This document allows us to be short-listed earlier by companies looking at expandable regions.”
