Habitat Mount Kynoch proposes first 81 lots of new housing estate to Toowoomba Regional Council

Residents will soon be able to register interest to buy lots inside what is being described as Toowoomba’s newest masterplanned community, after the first stage was submitted for approval.

PROPOSED: The developers behind Habitat Mount Kynoch, fronted by project manager Jacob McVeigh, have submitted plans for the first 81 residential lots from the new 1000-lot masterplanned community.

Developers behind a massive masterplanned community north of Toowoomba will soon allow residents to express interest in buying lots inside the new subdivision.

The first stage of Habitat Mount Kynoch was lodged with the Toowoomba Regional Council last week, with the section featuring 81 lots, medium-density zones, a local commercial centre and extensive parkland.

It is the first step in creating up to 1000 new homes on a large parcel of land that will effectively extend the city’s urban footprint and shorten the distance between Toowoomba and Highfields.

Habitat project manager Jacob McVeigh said he was expecting strong interest in the project from first and second-home buyers and downsizers.

“We’ll be looking to take it to market it next year and then it’s just the time frames involved with council before we start turning dirt,” he said.

“The demand will be good, considering what we’re creating.

“We’d like it to be a destination for people to come and live, and those groups are first and second-home buyers, among others — we want it to have a real community feel.”

It comes nearly a year after the council approved a variation request for the project’s 147-hectare space, meaning future applications would enjoy a smoother process.

Mr McVeigh said the first lots, which average about 660 sqm in size, would have incredible views of the surrounding countryside.

“Habitat Mt Kynoch will offer residents a lifestyle surrounded by stunning natural land

features, including views across the city skyline to Gowrie Mountain and an abundance of

existing trees that will be retained,” he said.

“The design process has been critical to achieving the delicate balance between

preserving natural trees within the greenway corridors on the site – while still achieving a

well-connected community.

“Habitat Mt Kynoch will bring to life new community amenities, gathering spots and

ponder points where residents can celebrate together, enjoy a healthy outdoors lifestyle,

explore and appreciate their surrounds.”

A number of other reports were submitted along with the application, exploring traffic, ecological, wastewater and landscaping impacts.

The expressions of interest period is expected to start in early 2022.
