Groom MP Garth Hamilton has urged Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to drop the idea of a quarantine hub at Wellcamp Airport, 11 weeks on from when the concept was first made public.
Mr Hamilton’s comments come off the back of the Premier on Thursday saying the State Government was “still waiting on an answer from the Federal Government” as to whether they supported international flights coming into Wellcamp.
“It’s a very simple question – yes or no,” she said.
“It’s a serious proposal, but we need an answer out of the Federal Government.”
Mr Hamilton hit back, saying: “The Premier talked about this being a serious proposal. Well Premier, it’s not a serious proposal if there are no details behind it.
“Either you have the details or you don’t. I think you need to own up and say there are no details to this plan and allow this idea to die.”
Mr Hamilton said the Premier’s visit to Warwick on Thursday was an opportunity to consult with the Darling Downs community – something she chose not to do.
The Premier pointed to the slow vaccination rollout and constantly arriving overseas travellers as reasons for why the hub was still needed.
