A grain and cotton seed storage facility has put forward plans for a big expansion.

Applicant Graintrains Pty Ltd submitted the proposal this week, which would build upon an original approval from 2010 for the site on Adams Lane at Southbrook.

According to the plans, the change would increase the facility’s overall capacity to 60,000 tonnes.

“The site is currently improved by an existing bulk grain storage facility including an office building, grain silos, weighbridge and storage sheds,” the report said.

“All existing buildings and structures will be retained as part of this development.

“The proposal will involve an expansion of the existing bulk grain storage facility, increasing the overall capacity to 60,000 tonnes, with an annual throughput of 90,000 tonnes.

“The proposed works include an equipment/machinery shed, cotton seed storage shed, and one unenclosed ‘bunker’ storage area.”

The planned bunker would be 155m long and 40m wide, creating a footprint of 6200 sqm.

An update traffic plan was submitted with the report.

The council has yet to respond to the submission.
