Ex-McDonald’s franchisee Keith Beer approved for change to new Toowoomba service station

A former Macca’s king can now move ahead with his latest project — a $2.2m service station on one of Toowoomba’s busiest intersections.

Construction will start by the end of the year on a new $2.2m Toowoomba service station, after the council approved changes to the plans this month.

The upcoming Pearl servo on the corner of Taylor and Tor Streets in Newtown is the brainchild of former McDonald’s franchisee Keith Beer.

The approved changes include a reduction in the gross floor area by 50 sqm and alterations to the number of bowsers for cars and trucks.

Mr Beer, who proposed the service station back in 2019, said engineers were currently completing preliminary works at the site ahead of construction starting.

“We’ll get all the underground work done, we’ve got to have it all ticked off with council,” he said.

“They’ve just got to go back to council with it and then it’s about two months to go through.

“We’re hoping for October or November to start work, without underestimating anything.”

Mr Beer said he wasn’t anticipating any delays in construction when he sends the project out to tender.

The servo is one of several projects Mr Beer has been focusing on since he sold his final Toowoomba McDonald’s at Harristown earlier this year.
