Department of Housing releases tenders for new public dwellings, with 35 to be awarded for Toowoomba in 2021

The State Government is planning to start work dozens of new public housing dwellings in Toowoomba this year, with tenders already released for several of them.
The Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy released tenders this month for a four-bedroom house on Kaytons Street in Drayton and a pair of two-bedroom units on Waverley Street in North Toowoomba.
According to a department spokeswoman, the State Government plans to settle on contracts for 35 dwellings across Toowoomba by the end of 2021.
“In 2021 under the $1.6 billion Housing Construction Jobs Program, the department is forecasting to award a contract for 23 new social housing properties in the Toowoomba region with a further 16 new social housing properties forecast to be awarded under the Works for Tradies initiative in the Darling Downs region, including 12 in the Toowoomba LGA,” she said.
“The properties listed for tender in Toowoomba will be social housing properties built under the Works for Tradies program.
“Locations for social housing is prioritised in regions set to experience high population growth, including Toowoomba with properties located in areas where tenants can easily access local community infrastructure and support services.”
By next year, the department is hoping to have built more than 80 new social housing dwellings since 2017.
