A SET of horse stables just a few kilometres from the Clifford Park Race Course will be expanded, after the council approved it at a special meeting.
Applicants Mark and Madonna Currie can now move ahead with a plan to double the capacity of horses stored at their stables on Hursley Rd in Glenvale, from 12 animals to 24.
Speaking to councillors on Wednesday, TRC senior planner Richard Green said the stables would employ five people and operate seven days a week.
"The proposed hours of operation for the facility are 3.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday; and 6am to 4.30pm, Sundays," his report said.
"Staffing at the site will consist of three employees in the morning and two employees in the afternoon.
"Site activities in general will include horse transportation (i.e. to external training and racing facilities), grooming, exercising (horse walker), resting (horse day yards), feeding and cleaning (including cleaning of stalls, management of horse manure)."
The proposal was based on a previous approval granted back in 2004 by the Jondaryan Shire Council.
The application attracted three submissions against, who complained about its consistency with the planning scheme, acoustic impacts and issues with odour and waste.
Mr Green recommended 61 conditions for the applicants to follow to ensure it met planning benchmarks.
He also noted the development was "appropriate" for a rural residential zone, despite being listed as an inconsistent use.
The development was carried unanimously.
