An emerging community southwest of Toowoomba could get a new childcare centre, creating up to a dozen new ongoing jobs in the process.
Applicant Schriek Building Group Pty Ltd put forward the proposal last week for an 80-child facility on Eton Street in Cambooya to the Toowoomba Regional Council.
This would be Cambooya’s second centre, to go with the existing C and K Community Kindergarten.
According to the planning report, the centre will cater for all children from infants right up to kindergarten age.
“The proposed 80 places childcare centre will comprise 16 nursery-aged children, 20 toddler-aged children and 44 kindergarten-aged children along with 12 full-time-equivalent staff,” the report said.
“The internal layout of the building makes provision for a foyer/reception area, two nursery rooms with cot rooms and storerooms, two toddlers rooms with nappy change rooms, lockers, storeroom and amenities, two kindergarten rooms with a nappy change room and amenities, multipurpose room, admin area, staffroom, kitchen, laundry, amenities and storeroom.”
The development application is code-assessable, meaning the applicant won’t need to complete community consultation as part of the planning process.
The application included separate reports into stormwater and hydraulic impact.
The council has yet to respond to it.
