In a boost for the town of Oakey, Riverina Stockfeed was given the green light by the Toowoomba Regional Council to augment its existing facility on Queen St with a new nearly 5000 sqm warehouse.
According to the report submitted by Precinct Urban Planning, the warehouse would complement the existing feedmill in operation and package 2400 tonnes of product a month.
“The internal layout of the building includes a storage area that contains the automatic bagging machine and a staff amenities and dispatch office area adjacent the loading area on the eastern side of the building,” the report said.
In a statement, Riverina said the new bagging machine would streamline operations.
“Each form of product will transfer from the feed mill to storage silos on the western side of the new warehouse in a closed conveying system,” it said.
“The product will then transfer to an automatic packaging line inside the warehouse.
“This system will package the product into 20kg bags and palletise ready for distribution to the rural wholesale market via road transport.
“This practice is currently performed from the feed mill in a smaller shed and slower packaging process.
“The increased throughput ability will allow Riverina to meet the market demands experienced during the recent drought and alleviate some of the stress to customers and staff during times of increased demand.”
TRC planning officer Nadia McLeod found the application generally complied with the outcomes of the planning scheme and recommended approval.
More than 70 conditions were attached to ensure it complied with the approvals.
