PLANS for a landmark high-rise hotel development in the Toowoomba CBD have been lodged with Toowoomba Regional Council.
FK Gardner and Sons wants to build a eight-level, 74-room hotel complex in Margaret St and to integrate it with the current Church of Christ building.
That culturally significant building will be restored to act as the hotel's lobby and concierge.
A eight-level tower will be built at the rear of the property and will contain 40 units as well as a guest gym and conference centre.
FKG development manager Dallas Hunter said Toowoomba's commercial growth was a major driver behind a recent wave of interest in the motel accommodation sector.
"Toowoomba is a good news story at the moment," he said.
"The economic fundamentals are very strong and there are a lot of exciting opportunities resulting from unprecedented levels of growth and investment in the region.
"In the next few years Toowoomba will have an airport capable of servicing jet aircraft.
"The city is materializing as a strategic centre of national significance and the current business interest from national brands is testament to this confidence."
FKG is in advanced negotiations with a national serviced apartment provider.
Two levels of off-street parking will be provided within the development with access from Margaret and Church Sts.
"The development will cater to a corporate travel market that is currently under-serviced in Toowoomba.
"The tenant with whom we are dealing has a highly successful national platform that will provide a superior accommodation offering and corporate reach," Mr Hunter said.
