Crocodiles, midges and ‘mango madness’.

It’s a far cry from what you would expect to see in a show about a multinational team of US agents and Australian Federal Police officers investigating naval crimes, but there’s reasoning behind the madness.

Two long-awaited Darwin-centred episodes of NCIS: Sydney will air on April 4 and April 11 on Paramount+, bringing the Top End to the world stage.

The two-part special will feature locations including Mindil Beach Casino, Frances Bay Mooring Basin Facilities aka The Duck Pond, HMAS Coonawarra, Berry Springs Ski Lakes and Casuarina Beach.

Without spoiling the storyline, the episodes feature the agents as they fight off a looming terrorist attack from East Timorese freedom fighters, who have planned to strike during a Bombing of Darwin ceremony in the Darwin CBD.

Whether or not they stop the attack in time is for you to find out.

Promoting the Territory experience on TV panels and in interviews around the world, while laughing about the croc dangers along the way, the cast says they are ready to show the NT to a wide audience.

Supporting the decision to take the show north was Screen Territory’s Production Attractive Incentive Program, which targets high-profile film projects with a view to boosting the local economy.

Screen Territory director Jennie Hughes said she was excited for the episodes to go to air.

“Screen Territory is thrilled to see the NT filmed episodes of NCIS: Sydney streamed across Australia on Paramount+ and on CBS in the USA,” she said.

“Screen Territory’s Production Attraction Incentive Program grant of $250k generated a direct NT spend of $2.9 million over the three week filming block into the NT economy, which is an almost 1:12 return on investment, and demonstrates the incredible economic impact of screen production.

“The immediate boost in the local economy included the employment of Territorians and many local businesses, from our skilled local crews and cast, to transport and accommodation providers, location partners, catering, hospitality, set builders, painters, croc-spotters and so many more.

“But beyond that immediate impact is the flow-on effect of promoting visitation to the NT to a global audience through this internationally celebrated franchise.

“Showcasing our incredible landscapes and culture for millions to see on screen has been proven to boost ‘set jetting’ tourism, kicked off by Crocodile Dundee in the 1980s.”
