More than 20 years ago in a small suburban hair salon in Malaysia, a 12-year-old Catt Too started shadowing her mother, the salon’s owner – now has started a spa of her own.
“She (my mum) was my biggest inspiration,” Ms Too, who moved to Darwin from Melbourne seven years ago, said.
“Working in the environment piqued my interest in scalp and skull care.”
Four months ago, Ms Too took a gamble and kicked off her own cosmetic and personal care business, Lift Your Soul Head Spa, out of her home in Darwin.
Her business offers a number of head spa treatments, scalp massages, deep cleanse hair washes and more.
With her business taking off, Ms Too said she quit her full-time job at the pharmacy so she could begin operating full-time.
“When I first started, I didn’t know what to expect, but I thought I’d just try it out and see how it goes,” she said.
“Then I started getting more and more clients and really great reviews so I thought I’d fully commit to it.”
“I’m now expanding to a bigger building that’s not my room.”
Ms Too said people usually forgot to look after their heads.
“Most of us get our nails, lashes, facial and body massage done but we forgot about our head and brain; the most important part of our body”, she said.
“Getting a head spa is not only for relaxation, but it also improves our mental clarity and boost the happy hormone serotonin, it’s good for scalp health and our soul.”
There is a place for her business in the Territory, Ms Too said.
“In Melbourne, where I lived before moving to Darwin, there were head spas everywhere,” she said.
“When I moved here there wasn’t much of that, so I thought it’d be a good idea to open one here.”
“I find it really rewarding to make other people feel spoiled.”
“It’s also nice to do something I like to do, and it’s important you do something for yourself that makes you happy too.”
Although she takes only female clients currently, Ms Too said she would start taking men starting from March.
