Ten Territory middle schoolers from Darwin will test their mettle down on the Gold Coast in Queensland at the 2025 National NFL Flag Football titles.
Students from Darwin Middle School earned their place in the under-15 Territory team having won the state title by default, the only team to enter the competition.
The students will head to the GC in June as part of an all expenses paid round trip.
If the Territory side is to be successful, a trip to the States is on the cards, where they would represent Australia at the NFL FLAG 15U International Tournament in Canton, Ohio, and play against teams from eight other countries.
DMS teacher and coach of the side Luke Ehrlich said he was proud of his Year 9 athlete development class students and that they would represent the NT proudly, with a lot of training on the cards ahead of the competition.
“They will not only represent their school but the Territory at a major carnival,” he said.
“We will continue to train four times a week and we actually have a practice match against Nightcliff Middle School in the middle of June just before we head away.
“I’m hoping that from now on the kids will refine their skills.
“They’ve already got some great attacking plays and offensive ability, but defence is such a core component of the sport and is what we will have to focus on moving forward. “Communication among themselves is also very important as that’s what will make us a cohesive team.”
