Curtis Stone’s top barbecue tips for the Aussie summer

With footy grand finals and summer around the corner, here’s how to get the best out of your barbecue – and how you can score some free cookware.

Aussies firing up the barbie as the weather warms up will soon be able to score free cookware from Curtis Stone’s barbecue range by shopping at Coles.

Over spring and summer, the supermarket’s customers can collect eight items from the celebrity chef range by earning “BBQ credits” when they spend $20 or more and scan their Flybuys card.

The pieces include a stainless-steel spatula and tongs set, a carving knife and fork with a Japanese steel blade, a barbecue grill basket, a teppanyaki plate, heat-proof mitts, a marinade dish, a two-sided carving board and barbecue shears.

With Coles research showing one in three Australians are barbecuing weekly during summer, Stone said he hoped the giveaway would encourage people “to get creative with their outdoor cooking”.

“Whether it’s perfecting a delicious marinade for your steak with the marinade dish, or sizzling the perfect chicken skewer on the teppanyaki plate, the range has something for everyone,” he said.

Stone will also share seasonal barbecue recipes via the Coles magazine and website, along with tips and tricks to grill like a pro, over the next three months.

To get the best out of your barbie, he recommends preheating it before you use it, seasoning meat before putting it on the grill, and if you’re using more affordable cuts of meat, marinating them overnight.

“You can cook anything on a barbie … whether it’s a burger, a sausage, a gorgeous piece of steak, fish, prawns (and) all sorts of veggies,” the Coles ambassador said.

Coles had provided more than 28 million kitchen items to households for free across its various collectable programs, chief customer officer Amanda McVay said.

“This year, we’re giving customers more reason to celebrate the arrival of warm weather, rewarding them with our first collectable range designed by Curtis Stone,” she said.

Shoppers will earn one BBQ credit for every $20 spent in one transaction, with items redeemable for between 16 and 80 credits.

They can supercharge their tally by purchasing more than 1200 participating products that offer bonus credits, or by opting to redeem items by using half the necessary credits and paying the remainder of the retail price.
