Regular commuters along West St may face detours once again on Wednesday evening as part of Toowoomba Regional Council’s ongoing asphalt overlay works.
Motorists travelling on West St between Stephen and James streets will have noticed the asphalt overlay works, giving the 550m strip a much needed glow up.
Clean white lines on shiny black bitumen seemingly appeared overnight along the stretch between the new Officeworks and the Toowoomba Base Hospital, right up until Stephen St in Harristown.
Council workers are expected to complete the works on Wednesday night, finalising the side street intersections, Infrastructure Services portfolio spokeswoman councillor Carol Taylor said.
From around 6pm last night motorists were met with detours on both ends, having to make 2km side routes around the railway track, to Ruthven St on the east, and up to Harristown State High School and towards O’Quinn St on the west.
This will be the first of a number of asphalt overlays planned by the council along West St, with the next one planned for February between James and Herries streets, Ms Taylor said.
“Similar work is planned for West St on two other sections – Bridge St to Mort St and Nelson St to UniPlaza Ct – in coming months,” she said.
“Council is finalising the timing of these two projects.”
