Trampolines, picnic areas and heaps of new play equipment could be coming to a large park in an inner-city Toowoomba suburb.
Residents can now give their feedback on the Toowoomba Regional Council’s new concept plan for Smithfield Park in Harristown, which has reached the second stage of public consultation.
The proposal for the green space, which is considered a district recreation park by the council, would see improvements worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
They include new picnic and barbecuing areas, toilet facilities, a small gazebo, more parking and established pathways for pedestrians and cyclists.
There has been a huge emphasis placed on play equipment for both younger and older children, such as a play fort, activity panels, soccer and basketball infrastructure, disability-accessible swings and even personal trampolines.
Parks and recreation portfolio spokesman councillor Tim McMahon said the TRC wanted to hear from residents about the proposal.
“The concept plan will seek to respect the heritage area of the park by reducing infrastructure within the precinct and complementing it with additional gardens,” he said.
“The community is encouraged to share their thoughts on the draft concept plan by completing a survey on council’s Your Say website, phoning council or sending written feedback to council before consultation closes on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
“It is important to remember that any future upgrade works will be dependent on funding and council priorities.”
