Toowoomba Regional Council to start vital geotechnical investigations at site of future Quarry Gardens project

The Toowoomba Regional Council will start work on vital investigations into the site of what could be the future Quarry Gardens project.

The rehabilitation of the former Bridge St Quarry has moved another step closer this month, with the Toowoomba Regional Council starting geotechnical investigations at the site.

Infrastructure chair Cr Carol Taylor said the works were important to undertake to prepare the old quarry site for future development and use as a public facility.

The area has been slated for a massive public garden attraction, known colloquially as the Quarry Gardens.

“This site has been identified as a future tourism landmark with potential for both public and private investment,” Cr Taylor said.

“We’re keen to prepare the site and make it safe for this future development.

“To do this, the council is undertaking geological and geotechnical investigations over the entire site.

“This will include below and above all the cut faces.

Cr Taylor said the initial investigations will focus on the upper side of the cut face that runs parallel to Prince Henry Dr.

“The geotechnical investigations have just commenced and will continue for the next few months,” she said.

“To allow access for machinery and testing equipment, and for the safety of pedestrians, portions of the footpath that runs parallel to Prince Henry Dr may be temporarily closed from time to time.”

Cr Taylor said the TRC would ensure appropriate traffic and pedestrian management measures were in place.
