Almost $10 million has been allocated to Toowoomba Regional Council for key projects as part of the Queensland Government’s 2021-24 South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program.

Toowoomba Regional Council has been successful in receiving $2 million for Clifton wastewater treatment plant, $2 million for Gowrie Creek trunk sewer upgrade, $1.11 million for Newman Road culvert replacement, $2 million for Russell Street East streetscape refresh and $2 million for Yarraman waste management facility.

Mayor Paul Antonio welcomed the news, reinforcing how important it was for local governments to receive funding from higher levels of government.

“This is great news which will help us complete key projects for the Toowoomba Region,” Mr Antonio said.

“There’s no doubt we’re reliant on the funds we receive from both the State and Federal Governments. To receive a significant amount of funding like this, will go a long way to helping us build essential infrastructure for our community.

“A wastewater treatment plant in Clifton and waste management facility in Yarraman are critical projects which protect the health and safety of our residents.

“The current Yarraman Landfill is outdated and needs to be replaced with a modern waste management facility that complies with the strategic priorities of council’s waste management strategy and the state waste reduction and recycling plan.

“In addition to this, I’m grateful to see we’ve received funding to undertake the Newman Road culvert replacement and Gowrie Creek trunk sewer upgrade, as well as Stage 2 of the Russell Street East streetscape refresh.

“Russell Street is an iconic Toowoomba commercial destination with a key role to play in the implementation of the Toowoomba City Centre Master Plan. The project will help transform Russell Street into a vibrant, people-friendly destination that enhances the unique character of the area and provides an engaging and inclusive environment that will support economic, business and community growth.”
