One of the most popular parks in a small town southwest of Toowoomba will be getting some much-needed works to refresh its ageing public infrastructure in the coming months.
The Toowoomba Regional Council has revealed renewal works will start at Factory Dam Park in Millmerran from April.
A top spot for picnics, the open space off Factory Lane includes a pond with a pontoon, barbecue, picnic shelter, playground, toilets and skate bowl facilities.
Environment and community general manager Nick Hauser said the council would focus on the footpaths, skate ramps and other public services like water bottle fillers.
“The works will include renewing a personalised paved footpath which has become uneven over time with a new concrete path to improve the safety and usability of the park,” Mr Hauser said.
“The project is proposing to carefully relocate the pavers, which hold sentimental value for the community, to a shaded seating area for reflection and relaxation.
“Other renewal works in the park will include the replacement of ageing skate ramps and a new water bottle filler.
“These works are planned for completion during April and May 2024, weather permitting.”
Residents are invited to give feedback on the renewal before February 23 via the website.
While Factory Dam Park’s renewal is not an upgrade, it is the latest set of capital works slated for a public open space in the council’s current budget.
The TRC is set to spend more than $52m on upgrading and refreshing the region’s parks in the current financial year, including Carly Hibbard District Park for $570,000, Emmerson Park for $1.32m and the Toowoomba Escarpment Parks for $1.05m.
