Toowoomba council still has list of 35 properties that could be auctioned off over outstanding rates bills

Nearly three dozen properties still owe the Toowoomba Regional Council a collective $600,000 in outstanding rates — and they could head to auction if it’s not paid. The full list here:

The list has nearly halved, but there are still 35 properties in the Toowoomba region that could be auctioned off at the end of the year due to ongoing unpaid rates.

The Toowoomba Regional Council has revealed the nearly three dozen parcels of land that have outstanding rates bills on them, with councillor Kerry Shine urging their owners to get in contact.

It comes two months after the council released the original list of 60 properties owing $1.3m, which has now been reduced to a bit over $600,000.

Mr Shine said he expected to see most debts resolved before a potential auction in November.

“Council is proactive in attempts to contact residents and ratepayers with assistance and offers of support mechanisms where they find it difficult to meet their legal obligations regarding rates,” he said.

“There still is an opportunity for affected property owners to speak with council about available options to meet their current rates debt.

“Council encourages people to contact us to discuss a possible resolution.

“Council expects most property owners will pay their outstanding rates before the sale of land auction.”

Mr Shine said auction notices would be issued on October 20, with any auction listed for November 10.

“Rate arrears across the Toowoomba region have declined over recent years,” he said.
