New planning scheme to cater for region’s growth over the next three decades

Projected population growth means Toowoomba Regional Council has its work cut out for it as it prepares to build a new planning scheme.

Work has started on a five-year program to identify new ways to improve planning and development in the Toowoomba region and “seek community input to these solutions”.

The Toowoomba Region Futures program will deliver a new planning scheme, a growth plan and a Toowoomba Regional Infrastructure Plan.

Toowoomba Regional Council planning and development committee chair Councillor Megan O’Hara said projected population growth meant the council was working to ensure its new planning scheme met community needs and expectations.

“The new planning scheme will ensure the right development happens in the right locations and defines how land is used and developed for future housing, farming or industrial and commercial purposes,” she said
