A major cattle feedlotting company has applied to increase its extraction capacity gravel from an existing pit to use for a major expansion of one of its feedlots.
Toowoomba-based Mort and Co submitted a development application last week with the council to increase extraction at its gravel pit on Millmerran-Cecil Plains Rd at Kurrowah to up to one million tonnes per year.
According to the report by Precinct Urban Planning, the gravel will be extracted over five years as materials for the expansion of the company’s Pinegrove feedlot near the pit.
“With the exception of a small volume to be used by the land owner, the majority of gravel to be extracted will be used for construction and maintenance purposes for the associated expansion of the Mort and Co Pinegrove feedlot situated approximately 10km to the south of the gravel pit,” the report said.
“The available resource deposit is estimated to have an extraction duration of approximately five years.
“The volume of material extracted will peak at approximately 205,000 tonnes per annum in year one and then decreases markedly to approximately 20,000 tonnes per annum between years two and five.”
The applicant also attached reports into environment and traffic impacts, both of which found minimal issues.
The council has yet to respond to the application.
