Council forms alliance to improve local economy

Four local community organisations have entered into an alliance with council to help boost the economy following a number of disasters for the region.

Council has partnered with a group of local businesses and organisations to help repair the local economy in the Southern Downs following a series of disasters, including bushfires, floods, and the pandemic.

The Granite Belt Growers Association, Granite Belt Wine and Tourism, the Stanthorpe and Granite Belt Chamber of Commerce and the Granite Belt Sustainable Action Network will work closely with the Southern Downs Regional Council in a new strategic alliance to bolster the local economy.

Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi said the formation of the alliance was mutually beneficial and he was looking forward to working with the parties.

“By joining forces and sharing information with these organisations, we will achieve better outcomes for the region sooner,” Mr Pennisi said.

“We all want to see the Granite Belt reach its full potential and it makes sense that we should work in unity for the benefit of our region.

“Together, we will identify priority issues that directly relate to the Granite Belt and use our collective resources to progress these.”

The alliance will be active for the current term of Council and be reviewed in the next term.
