A CHILDCARE centre catering for up to 140 pupils and employing more than 20 people has been approved by the Toowoomba Regional Council.
Applicant Knox Investing Pty Ltd can now move ahead with the plan to build the centre on Main St in Westbrook, a growing community just outside Toowoomba.
According to the report by Precinct Urban Planning, the building would have a total floor space of more than 820 sqm.
“The development will be constructed with a range of building materials including weatherboard and fibre cement wall cladding and iron roof sheeting,” the report said.
“The roofline of the building is enhanced through the inclusion of multiple feature gables with glazed skylights.”
The report also highlighted landscaping and acoustic fencing to reduce the impacts of noise on neighbouring properties.
In response, council officers listed six issues it had with the original application, including around street trees, vehicle access and stormwater.
These matters were dealt with in subsequent responses from the applicant.
The State Assessment and Referral Agency and Ergon Energy were also contacted in relation to the development application.
Planning officer Shokhida Safarova recommended the centre be approved, listing a number of conditions for the applicant to follow.
