Work to replace the culvert on Barlow Road, Elphinstone, is expected to start by the end of the month.
Toowoomba Regional Council infrastructure committee chair Carol Taylor said the project would improve drainage and road safety.
“The work will include replacing the existing culvert with three 2100mm x 1200mm reinforced concrete box culverts and headwalls, installing outlet scour protection and widening the road to eight metres over the culvert,” she said.
“Construction company Bellwether has been engaged to deliver these works on behalf of council.
“Work will be undertaken from Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm. Weekend work may also be required.
“The project will require a full road closure for the duration of the works. A detour will be in place via Cranitch Road, approximately 700 metres to the south of Barlow Road.”
Residents are asked to follow traffic management directions for their own safety and the safety of construction workers.
Construction is expected to be completed by late August 2021, weather permitting.
The council will seek to minimise disruptions as much as possible and thanks residents for their patience and co-operation.
