Are you aged between 12 and 25 and looking to broaden your horizons, develop new skills and generally enjoy the company of similarly aged people?
Well, one of Toowoomba newest youth groups might be just what you’re looking for.
The Toowoomba Youth Peace Group (TYP. G) is a non-profit group which is associated with the Pure Land Learning College and is based out of Pure Land’s property on West St.
The group has a range of project that members work toward each year but anyone from 12 to 25 can join and enjoy the projects and activities without having to do any of the programs.
“One of our major projects for this year is we want to create a mural on a wall somewhere in Toowoomba city,” group president Fatima Aria explained.
“We haven’t settled on a design yet and we will ask people to suggest designs but it will be based on a theme of birds which are a symbol of peace.
“We want the youth of Toowoomba from all cultures and backgrounds to come together.
“We promote multiculturalism in the community and we represent the youth perspective.
“All the youth can participate and the projects are a good way to improve skills.
“It’s a fun thing to do but it also has meaning behind it.”
While the group is looking for a business or council to donate the use of the wall, the group will cover the cost of the mural itself.
“All the youth of the community will be able to participate and we will have expert painters there to supervise,” Ms Aria said.
