BRADLEY Evans has been selected to represent Toowoomba South in this year's Queensland Youth Parliament.

Member for Toowoomba South John McVeigh congratulated Mr Evans on being one of 93 youth representatives chosen to learn about parliamentary processes and debate local and statewide policy and legislation issues.

"This program is such an important way for young people to mix with others from across the State, develop skills in policy development and discussion and to gain a greater appreciation of the operation of our democracy," Mr McVeigh said.

"I look forward to debating policy with Bradley and helping him along the way in the coming months," he said.

Mr Evans is in Year 11 at Toowoomba Grammar School and is on the program's Transport and Road Safety Committee.

"I am looking forward to Queensland Youth Parliament because I am quite fascinated by the political system and would love to get a good look at how it actually works," Mr Evans said.

"One issue in my local area is the poor public transport available to residents," he said.

Youth representatives met last week for the official launch of the program in Brisbane.

Between April and September committees will connect in person, via phone or internet to write their bills, and to design and implement community action plans.

The representatives meet again in September for a residential program and the opportunity to debate their bills at Parliament House.
