After losing his daughter Bella at just four weeks old to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Billy Drury made it his mission to give back to the Toowoomba Hospital neonatal unit.
Since his beautiful baby girl tragically died six years ago, the loving father has been hosting the Something About Bella fundraiser.
Funds raised through the event which returned to the region at the weekend, are donated to the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation.
Owner of baking business Hoffcake Co, Tahneea Hoffman donated 100 per cent of the profits made from selling her cakes at a market stall on the day.
The generous 33-year-old, who was also part of the event organising committee, said the cause was close to her heart so she wanted to make a significant contribution.
“Billy is a friend of mine so I wanted to support him and this fundraiser, in memory of his late daughter Bella,” Ms Hoffman said.
“My brother was also born two and a half months premature and required attention that (makes) places like the neonatal unit essential.”
While the fundraising total raised this year is still being determined, the overall goal was $6000, with Ms Hoffman setting a personal target of $250.
Mr Drury previously told The Chronicle he felt honoured to be able to commemorate his daughter’s memory while making a difference for others.
“(Bella and I) shared a very special bond and I thank the team in the neonatal unit for the time I got to spend with my little girl,” he said.
“The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation does an amazing job raising much needed funds and I feel blessed to be able to work along them to make a difference in Bella’s memory.
“Anything we can do to help improve our health department will make a tangible difference in the lives of our loved ones that need care.”
