Toowoomba and surrounds can expect heat to last the weekend with possible ‘severe’ storms
It may be hot – darn hot – but that didn’t deter hundreds of players taking the field in the heat of battle for the Warriors Reconciliation Carnival.

Jack Martin Oval had seen cooler days but 35 degree heat and accompanying humidity wasn’t about to deter hundreds of rugby league players taking the field for the heat of battle in the Toowoomba Warriors Reconciliation Carnival this weekend.
Teams and supporters travelled from northern New South Wales and across southern Queensland to take part in the carnival and a little hot weather wasn’t going to deter the thousands of people who attended the games in Toowoomba.
Unfortunately, there appears to be little respite from that current heatwave across Toowoomba and surrounds for this weekend and we may even cop the odd “severe” thunderstorm or two.
According to Brooke Pagel from the Bureau of Meteorology, today is considered a “severe weather day” with temperatures climbing to the mid-30s for Toowoomba and Warwick but even higher across the region with Dalby expecting a top of 40 degrees and Goondiwindi 41 degrees.
“There could also be severe thunderstorms this afternoon from about 3 o’clock mainly in the Granite Belt and across the Darling Downs,” she said.
“And they could pop up quite quickly.”
Ms Pagel said though most of the rain to fall will be between 5mm and 10mm, there could downpours of up to 50mm in places on the Darling Downs and those downpours could appear “quite quickly”.
“There could be a little cool change coming on Monday but it could be hot until Tuesday,” she said.
Unfortunately, there will be little respite overnight too with minimum conditions expected to remain in the low 20s so a bedside fan might be a good idea for Saturday and Sunday nights.
