Toowoomba’s multicultural community was on show at the weekend, as hundreds of residents packed out Queens Park for the return of the Languages and Cultures Festival.
The popular event, which was cancelled due to COVID-19 last year, enjoyed a warm reception as various cultures performed dances and showcased their customs.
Co-ordinator Gitie House paid tribute to Toowoomba as a multicultural hub, saying the event could only become a success with the support of the wider community.
“Toowoomba has so much love and that’s what keeps us going every year,” she said.
“Toowoomba is a very special place – we have more than 200 cultures in Toowoomba and people speak more than 111 languages at home, but everyone calls Toowoomba their home.
“Everyone wants to help each other make Toowoomba an even better place, so that is this city’s speciality and this festival showcases that.
“We are absolutely delighted with the turnout.”
Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio also praised the event, saying it was a symbol of how inclusive and welcoming the region was to people of all backgrounds.
