URBAN visual arts sculptor Joy Heylen is excited about seeing her hard work come to life this weekend.

Mrs Heylen designed the Grand Central float for this year's Grand Central Floral Parade for the Carnival of Flowers.

This year's parade theme was inspired from the story The Secret Garden.

"We've adapted themes of imaginative times of childhood and we have made insects and flowers come to life," Mrs Heylen said.

"It usually takes about 100 hours to come up with a concept that will work."

The float is an elevated purple treehouse on top of a large tree trunk.

Mrs Heylen's team spent about 250 hours to complete the float with hundreds of metres of foam and 800 flowers and plants used to decorate it.

"I love building floats. As a sculptor you create sculptures but floats are something that children can interact with," Mrs Heylen said.

Grand Central marketing manager Marieke Bridgeman said it was exciting to see the results of the hard work come to life.

"There's nothing quite like carnival time in Toowoomba and I'm really looking forward to seeing all the floats in this year's parade," Ms Bridgeman said.

"The floats are the result of thousands of hours of work by local businesses and groups, and the dedication that goes in to making them is to be commended."

People who miss the parade will be able to see the float at Grand Central on Sunday.
