The small sailor doll Dorothy Sherratt is holding is not just a rare antique but also a part of the 92-year-old Toowoomba resident’s history.

Ms Sherratt snapped up the 1950s-era item at Aussie Fairs’ Antique and Collectables Fair at the Toowoomba Showgrounds at the weekend.

The doll was from the Orient Line SS Orcades, the same boat that carried Ms Sherratt and her husband from England to Australia several decades ago.

The doll will add to the family collection including replacing a similar doll that came to an unfortunate end in the mouth of their pet dog.

Event manager Michael Blok said more than 1100 eager antiques enthusiasts packed out the showgrounds for the two-day fair.

“We had about 40 vendors there, serving a range of things, from jewellery to coins to rare war items and all sorts of things,” he said.
