Lockyer Valley Mayor Tanya Milligan leads Cruise for Cancer 2021

Not even Covid-19 restrictions could deter more than 100 people joining in this year’s Cruise for Cancer on Sunday.

Now in its 20th year, Cruise for Cancer raises funds for the Cancer Council of Queensland, in particular sponsoring Room 17 at the Olive McMahon Lodge in Toowoomba.

The Olive McMahon Lodge houses regional families of patients receiving treatment in Toowoomba.

Run by the Darling Downs Harley Davidson Owners Group (HOG) and Rotary Club of Toowoomba City, this year’s Cruise for Cancer saw 54 Harley Davidson bikes with 105 participants roar down the Range from Queens Park, Toowoomba, to the Mulgowie Hotel where the group had lunch.

“It was a great day and a great ride,” Cruise director Paul Hempstead said.

“We had some HOG members from Brisbane and the Gold Coast join us.

“We road through Gatton and Laidley and along a lot of the back roads.

“A lot of people said they hadn’t seen the scenery along those routes before.

“They’re still counting the total but I know we’ve made the money we needed for Room 17 at the Olive McMahon Lodge.

“As well as the ride we had a show and shine at the (Harley Davidson) dealership on Saturday, a dinner at the Burke and Wills Hotel Saturday night and an auction today.”
