Despite a slight hiccup with electrical supply to a few exhibits, the annual Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland welcomed more than 2500 first nighters to the light show spectacular.
Marshall Cox of The Lions Club of Toowoomba West which organises the event each year, said despite the electrical problem which took out some displays, the show was well received and the night a great success.
“It was just an electrical supply issue and they’re working on that as we speak but it was all okay,” he said.
“Hopefully, the people who missed out on those few displays will come back to see the whole show.
“We welcomed 2600 people on our first public night and we hope to welcome a lot more over the nights leading up to Christmas Eve.
“We’ve got a lot of new displays and some that have been rejuvenated.
“We also have a fabulous line-up of local entertainment with choirs, bands, soloists and dance teams who are all so talented who perform throughout the night.”
The major beneficiaries of the event are the Toowoomba Hospice, the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland as well as some other charities.
“The major beneficiaries play a major part in helping run the event and they each have members on the project team,” Mr Cox explained.
“They provide volunteers and help with administration and invitations and media.
“They help us out with things we don’t have the skills for.
“Also, we can always do with more volunteers to help with such a big event, especially at weekends, so if anyone has a few hours to spare please go to our website at christmaswonderland.com.au where they will find all the information.”
Christmas Wonderland runs each night in Queens Park until Christmas.
