ONE of the biggest pitfalls for the social angler is towing the boat.

Well, that isn't a problem for people like Colin Robinson who simply folds his boat up and straps it to his car's roof.

Mr Robinson is managing director of Porta Boat which makes fold-up boats in various sizes, just the thing for a day on the water when you don't want to be towing a trailer.

"They're made out of kevlar, the same material used to make bullet-proof vests," Mr Robinson explained.

"Obviously you can't put a tinny on your car but these you can by simply folding them up.

"You can also put wheels on it if you want to tow it or put a shade on for those hot days.

"It's all about convenience, you don't need a trailer.

"Basically, if there's water you can launch it."

The boats come in sizes from 2.55m to 4.28m and weigh about 35kg folded.

Each boat folds up by the use of six pins which are easily put into place or removed.

The boats have seats which are also extractable and an outboard motor is easily fixed to the boat's stern.

Mr Robinson had his Porta Boats on display at the Queensland Outdoor Adventure and Motoring Expo at the Toowoomba Showgrounds over the weekend.
