A Gowrie Junction teenager has claimed a national modelling title after an almost month-long competition in Bali.
Mackenzie McCauley, 16, was named a finalist in the Australian Supermodel of the Year competition earlier this year and was determined to show the world that it did not matter what shape or size you are, you can still reach your dreams.
The 20-day competition involved mentoring sessions, photo shoots, runway practice and content creation with 18 other finalists.
On the last night of the event, which featured an international runway show, Mackenzie was awarded the Australian Supermodel of the Year in the Commercial category for 2023.
“Being able to say that I won my category is such a big achievement for me,” she said.
“My initial reaction when my name was announced was just waves of joy and happiness, I felt so proud of myself and was thrilled that my hard work had paid off.”
The teen, at only 5ft 2in, only began her modelling career about 12 months ago and was determined to show other aspiring models that height shouldn’t be a disadvantage.
“As well as promoting diversity within the modelling industry one of the biggest messages I learnt from Australian Supermodel of the Year is that you have to put yourself outside of your comfort zone in order to grow,” she said.
“This has completely changed the way that I view challenges and has helped me so much growing as a person/model.
“It’s the kind of message that you can use in all aspects on life and is something that I will be taking into the future with me.”
