Golfers at Toowoomba Golf Club conquer Longest Day challenge to raise funds for Queensland Cancer Council

Budding Toowoomba golfers have taken on an incredible challenge to raise more than $20,000 for the Queensland Cancer Council.

If you thought completing a standard 18-hole game of golf was a slog, imagine doing it on 72 or even 100 holes.

That was the challenge laid out for teams involved in the Toowoomba Golf Club’s Longest Day campaign challenge, which raised more than $23,000 to support lifesaving cancer research.

The participants golfed for more than 14 hours to achieve the result in less than desirable conditions yesterday.

Teams could either complete 36, 54 or 72 holes as part of the challenge, but one team went the extra step and did a century’s worth of holes.

Funds raised go towards the Queensland Cancer Council, which raises money for cancer research, support services and prevention programs.

Toowoomba Golf Club general manager David Marr, whose team completed the 100 holes across the day, said it was no easy task.

“We’ve been going since 4.40am (so) we’re all pretty tired,” he said.

“We’ve all been touched by cancer, and it’s a great cause so we feel it’s our obligation to help out.

“It’s not for us – it’s about raising money so that makes it easier to do.”
