Going by Toowoomba’s response, ‘We-is just not happy!’
The fact that the iconic Toowoomba-inspired and invented Weis Bar will now be made in New South Wales didn’t please many Darling Downs residents.

GOING by responses to our story on the Weis factory’s last day, Toowoombaites are not happy with its closure.
KristiC2: Yeah Nah, Sorry guys, but the legacy is that, in the end, big business won out. Another heritage brand dies at the hands of global dominance. A NSW produced product, owned by one of the worlds largest companies, is not a QLD product, no matter what it’s origins, or which way you spin it. Would the QLD Origin team still be The Maroons if they permanently relocated to Sydney.
Jill: The foundry; KR; the flour mill; and now Weis. Sell it out of town and it goes out of town and eventually out of business. Grew up on Fruitos, but Weis Bars can go to hell – now. And sick of hearing corporate, mealy-mouthed claptrap.
John: I understand it’s the owners choice but my love of the Weis Fruito has just taken a U-turn.
Michael: Another Qld iconic brand gone.
Carol: Not passionate enough to stay in the place where it was created and grew into the iconic product it is (or was before the decision to move it). I will never again buy a Weis bar – my decision – and I will avoid this company’s products
Lindsay: How will the Weis bar remain a Toowoomba icon if it is being manufactured in NSW?
Marie: sad to see a Queensland icon go to NSW after all these years and so many lost jobs
Scott: Marketing drivel. The fact is it is a NSW ice cream bar now. About all that really needs to be said.
Peter: Unfortunately, this is what happens when local companies are acquired by large multinationals. Weis has been synonymous with Toowoomba for over 60 years, but “rationalisation” means that the company will no longer be employing Toowoomba locals. Way back in the early 60s, a truck used to come around selling Weis bars and we were regular customers. It used to come down to Lismore from Toowoomba weekly, and always did a good business. We still enjoy the product today, but now we buy them at the supermarket. Our thoughts are with the staff who will lose their jobs as a result of this decision.
