Toowoomba’s Ben Iliffe and Lillian Vaughan “took a hike” on Sunday to help raise funds for children with autism, a decade on from their own time with early intervention therapy and childcare provider AEIOU Foundation.
The pair were among the hundreds who supported the foundation’s annual Take A Hike charity walk at Toowoomba Grammar School on Sunday, where the organisation was hoping to raise $40,000.
Now in their teens, Ben and Lillian (right, with Madi Kenna) said they were an example of what the program could offer to children with autism spectrum disorder.
“I was the kid who sat in the corner unable to interact with anyone — now I’m in Year 12 and have plans to study psychology,” Ben said.
More than 200 people registered for the event, which involved a 1km, 5km and 10km walk.
