Event organisers thrilled as entries up in several categories for 2021 Toowoomba Royal Show
It’s been a tough 12 months for the chief stewards of the Toowoomba Royal Show’s many events. But the level of entries, including from first-time participants, has been a cause for celebration.

Keen green thumb Sue Janetzki is happy to claim some prizes with her beautiful bromeliads, but she’s even more thrilled about the number of entries in this year’s Toowoomba Show.
The chief steward of the floriculture event at the show said she had witnessed a big increase in participants for the 2021 edition.
Mrs Janetzki said the return of the Toowoomba Show in 2021 had been a source of great excitement.
“Last year being cancelled was disappointing, but it’s been absolutely amazing coming back,” she said.
“We’ve got three times the amount of rose entries that we had two years ago — plenty are first-time entrants as well.
“What happens is the grand champion junior had their plants ready for last year, but it got cancelled, so it’s had that 12 month progression in growth.
“The junior section is out of this world, with the quality.
“We’re happy with the participation and the quality is a lot better than we’ve had before.”
Photography also enjoyed a small increase in entries, especially in key categories.
Steward Scott Sorley said while travel entries were naturally down due to a lack of international and national movement over the past 12 months, he had been pleased by the massive number of photos taken in the Darling Downs.
“Travel entries were definitely down, but we’re seeing a lot more creative entries, and a lot more local shots,” he said.
“Even though people can’t travel, they’re really engaging with their local areas much more.
“We didn’t see a domination of negative shots – they were encouraging and uplifting and bright.”
Long-time photography entrant Richard Wyton said he was happy to see the Toowoomba Show make a triumphant return.
