$65 million Glenvale project

THE region's 11 councillors will meet today to decide the fate of a $65 million Glenvale project along with a number of other matters.

A majority of Toowoomba Regional Councillors voted to approve the project last week in committee meetings.

But the plan - which includes five precincts covering convenience, retail, health, childcare, fast food, a service station, showroom, hardware, indoor sports, a tavern, motel and housing - must win final approval this week before any construction can start.

Developer DGM Group says the project will deliver a massive economic boost to the city, creating hundreds of construction and retail jobs.

Toowoomba Second Range Crossing name

Councillors voted to defer a plan to name the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing after an Aboriginal warrior last week.

The Heritage Advisory Committee proposed the bypass be named Multuggerah Way, but after deliberating the councillors decided more consultation was needed, particularly with Lockyer Valley Regional Council.

Council will decide whether to confirm that decision today.

$230,000 for Newtown Park Rose Garden

It was decided in committee meetings last week that council would provide $230,000 to upgrade and develop the Queensland State Rose Garden in Newtown Park.

The funding is so the garden can accommodate the National Rose Collection of David Ruston.

It also sought to hire an additional permanent gardener and provide an extra $5000 to the garden's annual budget.

Councillors will vote whether to confirm that decision today.
