Coffee shop and car wash planned for growing suburb

A CAR wash business is planning a massive expansion in the suburb, with plans submitted for drive-through fast food, a coffee shop, offices and new car wash.

A CAR wash business is planning a massive expansion in Wilsonton with plans submitted for drive-through fast food, a coffee shop, offices and new car wash.

Husband and wife team Clint and Donna Barham submitted plans to Toowoomba Regional Council for the premises at 350 Bridge St.

The new facility will have a detailing car wash with three bays running at a time.

Mr Barham said the car wash would vary from their old business in that it would offer both mini-details and the more expensive hand polish cleans.

His vision is for customers to be able to drive up, buy drive-through coffee and food, and consume that while their car is washed.

It's the latest addition to the car wash market with plans afoot for new facilities on top of the Grand Central redevelopment and on Ruthven St.

Mr Barham said car washing was big business and he hoped to capitalise on the growing suburbs of Cottswald Hills and Gowrie Junction.

"There are plenty of car washes in Toowoomba but you've got to do a good job for the right price and people come back," he said.

His other facility in Redcliffe is booming.

Preliminary meetings with council had been positive, he said.

A number of fast food tenants have shown interest in the site, but Mr Barham said nothing had been "put to paper" yet.

He said the store would likely be a pizza franchise like Eagle Boys or something similar.

Likewise no agreement had been made on a coffee shop tenant.

Offices will make up the rest of the development and will be placed above the fast food store.

Mr Barham said the car wash would likely operate between 8am and 5pm, with the fast food store to be open until late.
