Coast man 'late for work' when doing 170kmh on Warrego

A SUNSHINE Coast man caught driving at 172kmh on the Warrego Hwy told police he was speeding because he was "late for work".

A HOONING Sunshine Coast man was picked up travelling at 172km/h between Chinchilla and Brigalow by police on Monday.

The 29-year-old said he was running late for work.

He was charged $1026 for speeding and will lose his licence for six months.

Meanwhile, a standard roadside breath-test turned ugly when the driver started blaming his passengers for the decision to drink drive out to a pig shoot on his L plates.

As the officer approached the vehicle on Surat Developmental Rd at February 12, 9.45pm, both the front passenger and the driver tried to get out of the car to fight each other as the argument escalated.

The 21-year-old male L plater registered below .05 and will face disqualification from driving for up to nine months and a maximum fine of $6600.
