HOW Toowoomba can become a more accessible and inclusive community for people with a disability was explored with an open day at Civic Square on Saturday.
Regional Access and Disability Advisory Committee Chair Cr Joe Ramia said the Disability Action Week Community Festival showcased products and services which were on offer to improve accessibility across the city.
"It's a bit like a field day to see what's new, what's different," he said.
The festival included a panel discussion by the RADAC where people with a disability were questioned on various topics including how they felt in terms of access and whether they experienced discrimination.
"It's also let them know that things have changed and are changing, and that people are more receptive to people with a disability," Cr Ramia said.
"Barriers are slowly but surely being broken down and people are more accepting now."
It's the first time the festival was held at the weekend, a move which he said was geared towards making it more accessible for families to explore different services.
He said RADAC would review the festival's success and make a decision in the future as to whether it was to be held again on a weekend, or moved back to a week day.
"It's an awareness program, one to continually raise the profile of people with some kind of disability and let people know in the community there are a lot of service providers who can help them in their moment of need," he said.
