CDRL: Brothers early season success all in the mindset

Attitude.

That has been the key to Cairns Brothers’ positive start to the season, according to first-year captain-coach Jordan Biondi-Odo.

The undefeated and in-form Brethren sit on top of the Cairns District Rugby League ladder with a healthy points differential of +90, with Innisfail the next best on +33.

In the first four rounds, Brothers have scored an average of 32 points, while conceding less than 10, per game.

“Attitude has been a big thing that we’ve been harping on about and everyone’s buying in,” Biondi-Odo said.

“Everyone’s got the right attitude, whether it’s coming to training or going into a game, so we’re all clicking.”

He said the club’s history of success and lofty standards were also driving the playing group in the new campaign.

“A lot of us have played together for a while so we don’t really have many excuses to be fair,” he said.

Biondi-Odo said the positive and can-do attitude was best exemplified by 2021 season recruit Falcon Peni in the opening rounds.

The Cairns Brothers junior has returned to Stan Williams Park following a stint with Central Queensland Capras in the Intrust Super Cup.

“He brings heaps of energy, that’s Falcon to a T,” he said.

“He’s been filling in a few positions for us and is sort of just Mr Fix It at the moment.

“Whatever we’ve asked him to do, he’s done it, and he’s done it really well.

“We’ve had a few injuries to backs early and he’s probably the most versatile.

“His preferred position is in the halves or hooker, but we’re stacked there at the moment and he’s just killing it for us in the backs.

“He’s definitely making it hard for the boys that have got to come back.”

Brothers will travel to Jilara Oval to take on Yarrabah when the CDRL returns this weekend.

Kick-off is at 3pm on Sunday.
