May 6: Two children have been arrested after they allegedly assaulted a delivery driver and stole his scooter.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin alleged the children were armed with a screwdriver when they robbed the delivery driver in Ludmilla at 6.34pm Sunday.

Sergeant Rankin said several triple-zero calls reported the kids had allegedly piled onto the single scooter and were travelling outbound on Bagot Rd a short time later.

He said police used the kids’ ankle monitors to locate them in Winnellie’s business district.

Sergeant Rankin said one person in Winnellie reported the children were allegedly “smashing they way” into a business.

He said police attended the scene but the kids allegedly fled the scene.

Sergeant Rankin said two of the trio were found and arrested at 9.43pm Sunday, and the third child was still on the run.

In a separate incident in Katherine, Sergeant Rankin said three people allegedly entered a service station at 1.41am Sunday and stole cigarettes, alcohol, and cash.

He said the alleged “intruders” triggered the alarm, alerting the business’ manager before police were contacted.

Sergeant Rankin said police pursued the group on foot but were unable to locate them, though the majority of the cigarettes and alcohol were recovered as the group dropped them during the chase.

He urged anyone with information or witnesses to contact police on 131 444.

Men charged after alleged drunken car theft

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin said a red Suzuki hatch was allegedly taken from an Anula address about 6.07pm Thursday.

Sergeant Rankin said the car was spotted by a covert patrol of Strike Force Trident members at 2.27am Friday.

He alleged police followed the vehicle to an address in Woodroffe, where a 27-year-old and 22-year-old got out of the car.

Sergeant Rankin said the two men were then charged with driving a vehicle without consent and high-range drink driving.

He said police had been unable to contact the owner of the car as of 6am but the vehicle was ready for collection and no longer in public.

Livestock killed, fuel spilled in road train rollover

May 2: Several cattle have died after a livestock truck collided with another truck dragging three tanks of diesel fuel.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin said the northbound triple livestock road train clipped the southbound fuel tanker about 35km north of Daly Waters at 9pm Wednesday.

Sergeant Rankin said the drivers of both trucks were uninjured in the crash, but two of the livestock trucks carriages rolled, killing several animals at the scene.

He said the collision also “punctured” two of the other truck’s carriages, spilling about 10,000 litres of diesel across the Stuart Hwy.

The crash left the road blocked in both directions until road diversions were put in place about 6.50am Thursday, allowing for slow traffic movement.

Manhunt for alleged Katherine hotel robbers, drink driver arrested

May 2: Police are searching for a group of people who allegedly broke into a Katherine hotel to steal alcohol.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin alleged CCTV operators spotted the group leaving Kirby’s Katherine with several bottles of booze at 3.12am Thursday.

Sergeant Rankin said the alleged offenders fled the scene before police arrived.

He said officers found the group had allegedly caused significant damage to the business when forcing their way inside.

Sergeant Rankin said the group was still at large as of 6am Thursday, and he urged anyone with information to contact police on 131 444.

In a separate incident, Sergeant Rankin alleged police were led on a car chase across Katherine about 9.36pm Wednesday.

He said the car had initially been spotted allegedly speeding through a 60km per hour zone.

Sergeant Rankin said the vehicle allegedly stopped after about 7km and men fled from the vehicle.

He alleged an 18-year-old was chased on foot before he was arrested.

He said a 22-year-old man was arrested and allegedly returned a high-range blood alcohol level of 0.153.

Sergeant Rankin said he expected charges would be laid against the man after he sobered up.
