NEW equipment, building projects and learning aids are on their way to schools across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs after the Federal Government gave $200,000 to the region through the Local Schools Community Fund.

The grants offer $1000-20,000 for school projects and their associated costs.

Member for Groom John McVeigh said all schools should put their hand up for funding, but cautioned the pool was limited.

"We are lucky to live in a region that has a very high standard of education, but there is often a shortfall of funds for small projects or pieces of equipment," he said.

"It is important that the project identified delivers a real benefit for their local school community."

The money could pay for small-scale extensions or classroom refurbishments, new computer facilities, mental health and counselling services, playground, music and sports equipment, library resources or computer software.

Schools may submit one application for up to $20,000 funding for each of their campuses. Applications open today and close September 30.

Projects must be completed by the end of 2020. Click here for more details.
